Wapping doesn't merge data silos after the fact. It verifies each customer at sign-up, guaranteeing one consistent identity across every channel from day one.
The challenge
Most platforms build the customer profile by stitching together the data they already have: email sign-ups per channel, POS IDs, Ecommerce accounts. The result is duplicate customers, accounts created on the fly to grab a welcome offer, and merge & curation processes that never quite clean up the data.
How it works
Physical stores and Ecommerce are different environments, but customers verify their identity with an OTP only once, when they sign up. That single verification, shared by both worlds, unifies their online and offline behavior under one guaranteed identity.
Self-service registration from the brand's site.
Sales associates enter the details; the customer verifies their mobile number.
Sign up right in the chat by scanning a QR code.
Native sign-up with immediate access to the wallet.
A QR code linked to a physical card.
Sign-up built into online account creation, with the same OTP.
Mobile verification works the same way in store and online. That's why customers don't end up with a "store" profile and a separate "online" one: they have a single ID that unifies all their purchase behavior.
After registration
Once verified, customers identify themselves at checkout seamlessly, through their preferred channel, with the same level of security every time.
The QR is always dynamic and single-use: it expires after each purchase, so a shared or reused screenshot cannot be used to impersonate the customer.

Unified 360° Customer Profile
Wapping vs. the traditional approach
| Aspect | Traditional approach | Wapping |
|---|---|---|
| Source of identity | Stitching together existing data silos | Mobile OTP verification at sign-up |
| Duplicates | Frequent, requiring continuous cleanup | Prevented at the source |
| Fake accounts for promos | Possible with just an email | Blocked by requiring a verified mobile number |
| Visibility into customer channels | Limited or nonexistent | "Linked Accounts" panel on the customer record |
Use case — Marketing
With a unique, guaranteed customer, marketing can design personalized promotions, tiers, and rewards knowing the segment is accurate. Without that reliability, the same customer shows up split across several profiles: the segment is calculated wrongly, a welcome discount can fire twice for the same person, and the real impact of the campaign can no longer be measured with confidence. This is where every activation and loyalty strategy starts.
Frequently asked questions
It is the unique identifier that Wapping creates for each of a retailer's end customers. It is generated at registration by verifying the customer's mobile number with an OTP, regardless of the channel the customer joins through: web form, physical store, WhatsApp, APP, physical card, or Ecommerce. If registration happens through WhatsApp, no OTP needs to be sent, because Meta has already verified that number.
No matter how many channels they register through, the customer will always have a single customer identifier with all their omnichannel information consolidated, thanks to the way Wapping manages the Unique Customer ID.
A traditional CDP typically joins existing data silos (email, POS, Ecommerce) through merge & curation processes after the fact. Wapping verifies identity at the source with a mobile OTP, avoiding the creation of duplicates that later have to be merged.
Because every segmentation, personalized promotion, or tier program is calculated on the customer profile. If that profile is duplicated or unreliable, personalization fails and campaign results cannot be measured with confidence.
